GOLF AT THE LAKE CLUB

The golf pro shop and booking facilities are managed by our Head Professional, Rob van Velzen. After checking in and browsing through our well stocked Pro Shop you will find yourself heading towards the first tee and an accurate prelude to the rest of the course. The first like many other holes, is tightly-lined by medium sized oak trees with interspersed conifers and bluegums to challenge your wayward drive. The course is extremely fair and highly rewarding to those golfers who can keep it straight and judge the pace and line of superbly contoured and well conditioned greens.

All holes are well protected by both fairway and green side bunkers and every par 5 is accessible to the long hitter. If you find yourself successfully manoeuvring your way past strokes 1 and 3, stay focused because the long par three 9th will expect a solidly struck low iron or wood with no room for error. A par is a great result on the 9th.

The 10th and 11th are a warm welcome to the back 9 but use this opportunity to hone your skills as you make your way through holes 12 to 18. These holes demand great accuracy to avoid beach sized bunkers and undulations that threaten to pull your ball towards the lapping waters of the adjacent lake. Good planning and great execution are the weapons required for the next 6 holes.

The 12th, 13th and 14th can easily blemish the most perfect of scorecards. Amen Corner begins at the 15th and once you have negotiated the risks and rewards of this long, yet luring par 5, you will probably walk off with a prize birdie, solid par or clutch bogey.

The par three 16th is the signature hole at The Lake Club and demands a precision shot to fly the water and ensure a gentle landing on a green surrounded by water and severe slopes. There simply isn’t room for error on this par 3. The stroke 2, 17th to follow has also broken many a good round. The 17th requires a solid drive and commanding second shot, but a missed drive will destroy even the most accomplished of golfers.

When closing your round be sure to pay the 18th the respect it deserves. A great drive will see your ball bounding down the left side of the fairway and setting up a perfect mid to lofted iron shot to a green that is well protected by pines and a small pond guarding the left edges of the green. You will be welcomed by the clubhouse gallery as you reach the 18th green and, if the golf has been great or you have simply enjoyed the stroll, make sure that you pop upstairs to the Swan Bar to add up your scores and share your story with our friendly members. Good luck, enjoy your round and may the course be with you !!!
